Test Administration Policies and Procedures
ACCUPLACER Dual Enrollment Test Administration Policies and Procedures ====HIGH SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES • Proctors must be familiar with Rio Salado’s testing policies and procedures. • All test proctors must have an ACCUPLACER Security Agreement on file prior to test administration. • Proctors cannot be faculty who have a vested interest in students scores (i.e. math teachers cannot proctor math tests). • Proctors may not participate in any coaching activities that address the content of ACCUPLACER test. Students and proctors can access ACCUPLACER Study Information, including sample questions, at: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/accuplacer/preparation-sample.html • Proctors cannot be related to the student. • Ensure there is one proctor for every 25 students testing. ====PROCTOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Proctors must go to http://testsignup.riosalado.edu and schedule test administration dates and times at least two weeks prior to testing. o For directions on scheduling placement testing at your high school, please go to: http://www.riosalado.edu/programs/dual/Pages/default.aspx. • Proctors must provide a testing worksheet. o This document can be accessed at: http://www.riosalado.edu/programs/dual/Pages/default.aspx. • Proctors must provide a roster of students and their Maricopa Student ID number prior to testing. o Student must use their Maricopa Student ID (i.e. 35249123) NOT their MEID (i.e. JAN1234567) to test. • Students without a Maricopa Student ID number and a valid picture ID will not be allowed to test. o Proctors must verify the student’s identity with a recognizable picture I.D. even if they personally know the student. o Acceptable forms of picture ID: School ID, Driver License, Identification Card, or Passport. • Students must sign the Sign-in Sheet, which records the date and time of the test, the name of each student, their signature, type of test taken and type of ID. This form will be sent with the passwords. • To ensure the confidentiality of the exam, proctor must type in the password when the student is not present or cannot view the computer and keyboard. • Students must work independently. Students are not allowed to view the exam prior to administration. Any suspected academic misconduct must be reported to the Tempe Testing Center as soon as possible. • Proctors must fax back the test sign-in sheets the day of testing. ====TEST ADMINISTRATION • ACCUPLACER is an adaptive, computerized test which is not timed. • Prohibited Materials – Electronic devices (i.e. cell phones, iPods) are not allowed during testing. Please provide space for examinees to store backpacks and all other personal items away from the testing area. • Calculators and Notes – All outside materials including calculators and notes are prohibited during testing. A drop down calculator will be available during testing, if one is allowed. • Irregularities - Monitor examinees and report irregularities. Students must not be allowed to talk with each other during the test and are not allowed to use notes, books, calculators or other assistive devices during the test. • Score Report - Instructions at the end of the test will alert students not to proceed beyond the score report screen. Students are to remain seated until dismissed by the proctor. Print the score report for the student, and if desired, a copy for the school’s files. • Room - The room used for testing should be dedicated to testing for the length of the test. Interruptions should be kept to a minimum. • Seating - Single-level seating to accommodate 25-30 examinees at least 3 feet apart shoulder to shoulder and front-to-back. All examinees must face the same direction. • Computers – Room chosen for the placement exam must be located in a suitable quiet testing environment, i.e. classroom labs. The computers must have access to the Internet. o Do not allow students to use their own computer or laptop unless there is a documented disabling condition that requires the use of a very specific computer. o To verify your computers meet ACCUPLACER’s System requirements, please go to https://www.accuplacer.org/cat/LoginPage.do and click on System Requirements. Passwords are not required to complete this process. • Disability Services - Documented students requiring special accommodations should contact Rio Salado’s Disability and Resource Services at (480) 517-8562. Passwords • ACCUPLACER passwords are only sent to high school email addresses. • Only authorized proctors may have access to the password. Under NO circumstance is the username ID or password released to an individual student to take the test at home, school, or other location where an approved proctor is not present. • Passwords change daily. Proctors must schedule testing at http://testsignup.riosalado.edu for each day they want to administer the placement test. Proctors must also turn in their Testing Worksheet, roster of students’ names and 8 digit Maricopa Student ID numbers and have a signed security agreement on file before the password is released. Policies • Students will be permitted one re-test in English, reading or math after at least a 24-hour waiting period. An additional re-test is permitted one year from the date of the student’s original or re-test at any course placement testing site. If a student has more than two test scores within a one year period, we will honor only the first two scores. • Assessment scores, with the exception of the reading exemption, will be valid for two years from the date of the original test or re-test. The reading exemption does not expire. The student’s score report should be referred to before re-testing a student and used when entering test scores on the students registration form. ====ASSET ADMINISTRATION STANDARDS High School Responsibilities – Prior to testing • Testing must be scheduled at testsignup.riosalado.edu at least two weeks prior to testing. • Proctors must provide a testing worksheet. • Proctors must provide a roster of names and Maricopa 8 digit Student Id number prior to testing. o Student must use their Maricopa 8 digit Student Id (i.e. 35249123) NOT their MEID (i.e. JAN1234567) to test. • Notify the college of students that require special accommodations. In some cases, these students may be directed to take the course placement test at the college. o Disability Services - Documented students requiring special accommodations should contact Rio Salado’s Disability and Resource Services at (480) 517-8562. • Rio will supply ASSET answer sheets for each student; these will be mailed to you in advance of the testing date. • Students must complete the answer sheet prior to the scheduled test date. • A booklet of sample ASSET questions is available at: http://www.act.org/asset/pdf/StudentGuide.pdf ====TEST ROOM SELECTION AND SEATING • Single-level seating to accommodate 25-30 examinees and spaced at least 3 feet apart, shoulder-to shoulder and front-to-back between examinees. If elevated seating is the only option allow at least 5 feet shoulder-to shoulder and front-to-back between examinees. Approximately every other seat should be left vacant. • No more than 100 examinees in one room • The writing surface must be large enough so examinees do not have to hold or shift either their assessment booklet or answer documents. Lapboards are not allowed. • All examinees must face the same direction. • Ensure room has space for examinees to store personal items away from the testing area. ====PROCTOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Proctors must me familiar with Rio Salado’s ASSET Administration Standards • All test proctors must have an ACCUPLACER Security Agreement on file prior to test administration. • One proctor for every 25 students is required to administer the off-site ASSET test. The high school is responsible for providing additional proctors for groups larger than 50 students. • Proctors may be asked to assist with proper timing of the test and enforce time limit. ====CHECK IN PROCEDURES ON TESTING DAY • Students without a Maricopa Student Id number and a valid picture Id will not be allowed to test. o Go to my.maricopa.edu to register for a Maricopa Student Id number. o Acceptable forms of picture Id: School Id, Driver License, Identification Card, or Passport. • Students must sign the Sign-in Sheet, which records the date and time of the test, the name of each student, their signature, type of test taken and type of Id. • Calculators are allowed on the algebra levels of the math test; however cell phones, PDA’s and any advanced algebraic function calculators are not allowed. Please refer to the Approved Calculator List provided. • Students must store personal items away from the testing area. ====POLICIES • Students will be permitted one re-test in English, reading or math after at least a 24-hour waiting period. An additional re-test is permitted one year from the date of the student’s original or re-test at any course placement testing site. If a student has more than two test scores within a one year period, we will honor only the first two scores. • Course placement scores, with the exception of the reading exemption, will be valid for two years from the date of the original or re-test assessment. The reading exemption does not expire. The student’s score report should be referred to before re-testing a student and used when entering test scores on the students registration form. Test administration standards have been developed for the Maricopa Community Colleges in compliance with the ACT guidelines. These standards have been developed to ensure students are treated equitably and fairly. Scores will only be valid if the same standardized administration procedures are followed every test session. College testing personnel may suspend the test session if all directions and procedures are not followed.
